Each year an Apprentice works and attends related training classes increases the value of the apprentice to the employer. The pay structure is based on the Journeypersons hourly wage with increases of 5% every six months completed until year five.
1st year – 1st six months - 40% rate - $16.27 an hour or $32,540.00 a year
1st year – 2nd six months - 45% rate - $18.30 an hour or $36,600.00 a year
2nd year –1st six months - 50% rate - $20.34 an hour or $40,680.00 a year
2nd year – 2nd six months - 55% rate - $22.37 an hour or $44,740.00 a year
3rd year – 1st six months - 60% rate- $24.40 an hour or $48,800.00 a year
3rd year – 2nd six months - 65% rate- $26.44 an hour or $52,880.00 a year
4th year – 1st six months - 70% rate - $28.47 an hour or $56,940.00 a year
4th year – 2nd six months - 75% rate - $30.50 an hour or $61,000.00 a year
5th year – 80% rate - $32.54 an hour or $65,080.00 a year
The current rate for licensed Journeypersons as of October 1st, 2016 is $40.67 an hour or $81,340.00 a year in your pocket. This does not include the fringe benefit package which raises the total wage of a licensed journeyperson plumber to $58.08 an hour or $116,160.00. The annual wages are based on a 2,000 hour year. In addition to these wages the Apprentice receives benefits including Medical Coverage and Pension Plan. By providing a structured wage progression the apprentice is able to plan out their future and receive the benefits of hard work and determination.
Plumbers & Gasfitters Training Facility Facts
The Plumbers & Gasfitters U.A. Local 5 Training Facility is a 53,000 square foot facility located in Washington Business Park . Currently there are over 250 Apprentices attending classes that range from Safety and Math to Computer Aided Drafting. These classes are staffed by 27 highly qualified Instructors who ensure that the program delivers the finest level of training.
